Cake Britain cupcakes!

Here's a peek at the special Jon Burgerman cupcakes we made for the Cake Britain show at the Future Gallery this weekend... Sponsored by the good folk over at Tate and Lyle in celebration of their move to Fair Trade sugars a selection of the UK's finest and funnest artists have come together with some of the country's top bakers (and, er, us) to create the world's first entirely edible exhibition.

We paired up with illustrative supremo Jon Burgerman who was kind enough to provide us with this picture of some burger men (geddit?) as inspiration. A lot of baking, custom cupcake molds, sugarcrafting and a moderate amount of cursing later and here they are - Crumbs and Doilies x Jon Burgerman Burger Men!

The exhibition is on from today until Monday 30th August at the Future Gallery (just by Leicester Square tube) and features other amazing cake art by Michele Wibowo, Bea's of Bloomsbury, Lily Vanilli, Miss Cakehead, Paul Baker, Bompass & Parr and more. All proceeds go to charity and for anyone with an interest in art or cake it really is a must-see.

Giant cupcake love

Hi all. Seems like our giant cupcakes haven't been getting much love here on my little blog - to be honest it can be a bit tricky to photograph these behemoths in the wild so I usually stick to the more manageable cupcakes when I'm snapping away in the kitchen. Anyway, let's start putting things right with a few pics of some of last week's giant cupcakes - here we have the vanilla rose, red velvet and vanilla varieties.

As a fairly recent addition to the C&D line-up our concern was that giant cupcakes can sometimes look a little 'messy', but I think we're pretty much cracked it thanks to a combination of smooth, crisp lines, soft, pillowy buttercream and careful application of sprinkles. They really are giant (8"+) and each one serves 12-14 people or so depending on how hungry you are your cake cutting skills, and (plug coming up...) they're available to order in the usual way!

Day Glo Wonderland wedding cupcakes

Here's some great wedding cupcakes we did for Fiona - she was going for a kind of edgy Alice in Wonderland theme and had made tonnes of awesome favours and invites, which we used as colour references for some sweet, sweet cupcakes.

Dentistry cupcakes

To say I don't know the meaning of the word irony makes it sound like I'm bragging about something, but I'm genuinely not that great with words so maybe these are ironic, maybe not. Anywho - they are pretty cool. Some dentist-inspired cupcakes we did as a goodbye from Clare and office pals to Cristina as she sets off on her new career path as a zoo keeper. No, no, I'm kidding. She's going to become a dentist.
